Twinkle, Twinkle Distant Star

Ann Hutchinson 2024

Twinkle, twinkle, distant star
How I wonder what you were
From across the galaxy, you shine
Did you warm a world divine?

Spinning on poles, swirling in orbits
Were there thinking beings on your planets?
Did they have hands and smell with noses?
Eyes that marveled at sunsets and roses?

Did people worship you from afar?
Were you, for them, a guiding star?
And if a moon hid your light
Did beings marvel or hide in fright?

For all the peopled planets, near and far
Are we the only ones who must have war?
Do they fear what is strange and new?
Do they have illegal aliens and racism, too?
